Biography

 

Anthony Vivis worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company for four years as Dramaturg and the BBC as Script Editor/Producer in Radio Drama for six years.

Since 1983 he has been a freelance writer and translator. In 1983, he won joint first prize of the Maddermarket New Play Competition, with Our War.

His articles and reviews have appeared in: Drama, Gambit, Flourish (Journal of the RSC), Theatre Heute, The TLS, Liber, The Listener, 3 Magazine, Plays and Players, Plays International, The Independent, Die Deutsche Buehne, Professional Translator & Interpreter, In Other Words, British Book News, Literature Matters, as well as various conference papers. He has been Translator-in-residence at UEA, where he also lectures and was RLF Fellow in Creative Writing. He also tutors for the Open University.
 

He has also translated works of the Nobel Prize for Literature (2004) winner Elfriede Jelinek.
