Biography

David was born in rural Devon in 1969, but at the age of ten moved North to Warrington in Cheshire, to live on a large housing estate which presented him with unending possibilities for mischief.

After leaving school, David gained a Ph.D. in gene cloning from the University of East Anglia. While working on new ways of discovering antibiotics at Stanford University, California, he also began to write, and after exploring writing for all ages he eventually decided to make an abrupt career change and became a full time writer, with a particular interest in children’s picture books.

David has had 30 books published in the last 6 years, with translations in 20 languages. They range from best selling picture books such as Big Bear, Little Bear, to short comic novels for ages 7-11 about a struggling football team who enlist the help of a Professor and her greatest invention, a robot called Mark 1 (The Team series).

David lives by the sea in North Norfolk with his wife (the writer Kate Jackson) and their two young children, splitting his time between childcare and writing. He enjoys visiting schools and libraries in Norfolk and beyond, and is a member of EAW, The Society of Authors, and the Scattered Author’s Society (‘the other SAS’).
