Biography

 

David Lowe is a freelance writer with a background in road haulage and the freight industry where he gained considerable knowledge of UK and EU road transport law and extensive ‘hands-on’ experience. Turning in mid-career to journalism and writing, he became a regular contributor to the UK transport trade press and in 1970 published the first edition of his widely acclaimed work, The Transport Manager's and Operator's Handbook, which he has since revised and up-dated annually – the 36th edition was published in December 2005. His latest important work, Intermodal Freight Transport, was published by Elsevier in October 2005. He has many other transport-related titles to his credit – currently numbering 98 titles registered with PLR.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, a Member of the Worshipful Company of Carmen and is a former winner of the Carmen’s prestigious Herbert Crow Memorial Award for; ‘over 30 years of written contributions to the furtherance of transport industry knowledge’.

David recently moved to Wymondham, Norfolk, where he lives with his wife Patricia. They have two grown-up daughters and four grandchildren who live in Norwich.
