Gabrielle Hatfield

Biography
Gabrielle Hatfield was born in rural Hertfordshire in 1945 where a country upbringing fostered her interest in wild flowers. She studied botany at Cambridge University, then after a brief diversion into medical research, returned to the field of British plants and their medicinal uses, obtaining a doctorate from Edinburgh University in 1980. Her first book won the Michaelis-Jena Prize for folklore. She was appointed a research associate at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. |
