Biography

Geraldine Evans began her writing career some twenty years ago and apart from a couple of lengthy glitches, she has been publishing ever since.

Born in London, the youngest of four siblings, Geraldine finished her formal education at the age of sixteen and started work. She has had a variety of jobs, including working in a library, a psychiatric hospital, as an au pair, running her own vehicle repair business in partnership with her future husband, as a temp in legal, utility and insurance firms and as a factory hand, amongst others. Somewhere during this long litany of day jobs, she decided that the daily grind of wage-slavery was too tedious for words. She sought escape in writing and began to flex her writing muscles. They were well flexed by the time she'd reached the end of a six-year-long period when she received nothing but rejections. Her first novel, Land of Dreams, was published at the end of this period.

Not long after, she switched to crime and wrote Dead Before Morning, her first Rafferty & Llewellyn novel. Quickly accepted from its slush pile by Macmillan, this humorous crime novel features DI Joseph Rafferty and his rumbustious, numerous and crime-flirting family. He is partnered by the dourly logical and dry-humoured DS Dafyd Llewellyn. Dead Before Morning was the first in a growing series.

Macmillan published three more novels in the Rafferty & Llewellyn series: (Down Among the Dead Men (1994), Death Line (1995) and The Hanging Tree (1996). The rest in the series, Absolute Poison (2002) Dying For You (2004), Bad Blood (2004) and Love Lies Bleeding (2005), are published by Severn House, both here and in the US.

As well as her humorous Rafferty & Llewellyn crime novels, she also has Casey & Catt, a second crime series on the go, the first of which is Up In Flames (2003), which introduces the crime-fighting partnership of DCI Will (Willow Tree) Casey and DS Thomas Catt. Casey, along with Casey's 'the sixties never died' unreconstructed hippie parents.

Under the name Geraldine Hartnett, she has also had a straight historical published. Reluctant Queen, which tells the story of Henry VIII's little sister, blonde, beautiful and defiant, Mary Tudor.

Geraldine has also had a variety of articles published, mostly on historical, biographical, writing and New Age subjects. She is married to George and now lives in North Norfolk.
