Biography

John Fletcher had a distinguished career as Professor of French and Comparative Literature at UEA Norwich and as Visiting Professor at several foreign universities (Odense, Salzburg, Konstanz, Griffith, ANU, Yaounde, Toulouse, Poitiers, Lille, Brest, Bordeaux and Angers). During this period he published a number of works of literary criticism. On retirement from UEA he became a full-time translator and literary journalist (his reviews of recent French publications appear regularly in the Times Literary Supplement).

He is an occasional poet and short-story writer, and is working on a number of books (fiction and non-fiction) which will be published under the pseudonym Jonathan Fune (from the Danish province of Funen, Hans Christian Andersen's birthplace). His biographical entry can be found in People of Today and in several who's who of writers and academics.
