Biography

Laura Napran is an independent writer, research historian and  translator (Latin). She has three degrees in medieval history, including a Ph.D. from University of Cambridge (Pembroke College) where she did research on medieval marriage.

In addition to her publications on medieval history listed above, Laura has worked on a number of encyclopedias: Encyclopedia of the Middle Ages, ed. A. Vauchez (Cambridge: James Clarke and Co., 1999); Lexikon des Mittelalters (online version) (Turnhout: Brepols, in progress); and Bénézit Encyclopedia of Art (English version, forthcoming).

Laura's current writing and research projects focus on the Republican history of Ireland in the early twentieth century. She is learning to speak modern Irish and enjoys attending language classes in Dublin and in Ireland's Gaeltacht. Laura also writes occasional articles for a Canadian newspaper, and has been known to dabble in writing poetry.
