Biography
Linda Hartley originally trained and worked as a dancer and
choreographer, weaving poetry, text, music and film into her
compositions. Since 1982 she has been training and developing a
therapeutic practice which integrates bodywork, movement therapy and
transpersonal psychotherapy. She runs a private practice in London
and Cambridge, and is founding director of the Institute for
Integrative Bodywork & Movement Therapy, through which she runs
workshops and training programmes for professionals. She is known
internationally as a teacher and writer within her field.
Before embarking on her dance training and career, Linda's love was
of poetry and literature, and her first aspiration was to be a
writer. With the publication of her first book her interests in
writing, dance and movement, and therapeutic healing work came full
circle. Wisdom of the Body Moving (1995), describes an innovative
approach to somatic movement therapy which has been a foundation of
her therapeutic and teaching work, as well as a source for creative
exploration.
Her second book, Servants of the Sacred Dream (2001), evolved out of
a life-long interest in women's spirituality and the re-emergence of
the conscious feminine in modern western culture. Her third book,
Somatic Psychology: Body, Mind and Meaning (2004), explores the
interface of psychology and psychotherapy with bodywork and somatic
movement therapy - the integration of body, mind and spirit in
therapeutic practice.
She has also published numerous articles in professional journals
and magazines, and most recently contributed a chapter to New
Dimensions in Body Psychotherapy, edited by Nick Totton (2005).
