Philip Ward
Fantasy
Biography
Born in Redhill, Surrey in 1938. Left Redhill Grammar School early
because of boredom. Joined the merchant navy as an apprentice on a
tramp steamer sailing the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean and Mississippi
Delta route. (New Orleans converted him to a continuing interest in
jazz and blues). In the last in-take for National Service, he spent
it as a radar operator on the island of Sylt. Thereafter, a
life-long avoidance of working in hierarchical institutions led him
to work as an agricultural labourer, self-employed management
consultant, semi-professional folk musician. In passing, he acquired
a B.Sc.Hons. degree in PPE from the University of London, and an MA
from the University of Essex. Presently, he is happy to indulge his
interest in blues by playing blues guitar. He also enjoys listening
to Bach, reading and writing. His short stories have appeared in
literary journals. Favourite cities are New Orleans, Dublin,
Copenhagen and Norwich. Apart from being grounded by MS, he is in
rude health, and finds life almost overwhelmingly interesting.
