Richard Barr
Biography Richard Barr was born in 1947. He is half American but has lived all his life in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. He was educated at Wisbech Grammar School, the University of Nebraska and the College of Law. For want of anything better he fell into becoming a solicitor and, 35 years on, is still trying to decide what he wants to do when he grows up. He had his first article published at the age of 19 in the Eastern Daily Press and has written a smattering of articles for them over the years. About 25 years ago he started writing a log of life in a law office. If the internet had been invented then, it would probably have become a “blog” but instead he distilled his experiences into hundreds of light hearted articles that have been published in most of the larger legal journals (and occasionally in the Times). He now writes regular back page articles in Solicitors Journal (“Tales from Practice”) which reflect life, the universe and everything. He also writes for village magazines and other small journals. He appears regularly on BBC Radio Norfolk as a “legal eagle”. For most of his life he worked in King’s Lynn but took time out at the end of the 1990s to become involved in handling some of the high profile cases (Gulf War illness, MMR vaccines and Organophosphate sheep dip). This necessitated working for London firms. MMR vaccines particularly took up many years of his life. He describes the experience as like living inside a John Grisham novel, and is determined to finish his book on the subject when work permits. He is now back in King’s Lynn, handling medical and brain injury cases. He has two children of his own. He lives in North Norfolk with his second wife and 4 adult step children one of whom is disabled as a result of medical negligence. He is a member of the Society of Authors.
