Rosemary Hayes
Biography
Rosemary lives in rural Cambridgeshire but has also lived and worked in Australia and the USA. With her background in advertising, marketing and publishing, she had always written plenty of slogans, but she launched into children’s fiction with her first novel, ‘Race Against Time’ in 1988. ‘Race Against Time’, published by Puffin, was the runner-up for the Kathleen Fidler Award and since then, Rosemary has written many other books for children. Some of these are for older readers (‘Seal Cry’, ‘Herbie’s Place’ ‘The Silver Fox’, ‘Blood Ties’ and ‘Mixing It’’ for example) and some for young children (‘The Gremlin Buster’, ‘The Smell that Got Away’ ‘Holly and the Dream Fixer’ and ‘Follow that Lion!’ are probably the best known of these). She is currently working on a novel for teenagers telling the story of young Muslim girl who runs away from a forced marriage. Rosemary has also written several short historical novels for schools , nine stories in the Fantasy strand of Cambridge Reading (Cambridge University Press) and a family saga trilogy, ‘Troubled Waters’ for Hodder. For several years Rosemary ran a small publishing company, Anglia Young Books, which is now wholly owned by Mill Publishing. She was also Project Manager for a Young Writers Award set up jointly by Cambridge University and Cambridge University Press and is a reader for a well known Author’s Advisory Service.
